Ministry in Bulgaria
Focus of Ministry: T&F’s first missionaries, John and Sylvia Putman, encourage, mentor, and train pastors of evangelical churches in Bulgaria.
Location of Work: The Putmans reside in the capital city of Sofia and are ministering in all regions of Bulgaria.
Why Bulgaria? Having been there five times on short-term mission trips, the Putmans became familiar with the people and place, establishing connections with churches in Sofia and Blagoevgrad. The culture and language is similar to that of Russia and Moldova which they know well.
Why this work? Bulgaria is underserved by evangelical churches – fewer than 1600 churches in a country of 7 million people. Pastors are few and the work of ministry is spread thin. Providing friendship, training, mentoring, short-term teams, and resources will encourage evangelism, church-planting, pastoring, and equipping of leaders.
Funding: T&F International raises support for all ministry expenses from churches, other ministry organizations, and individuals.
The plan? Using a very basic tool called, Practical Pastoring, and the Bible, the Putmans encourage each pastor, spouse, and church leader to see God’s vision for their ministry, to flesh that vision out, to act on it, and then to evaluate it, and correct as needed. They support them along the way, providing assistance and further in-depth training as needed.
